Daily Log for 11/29/07

I am planning on going to the YMCA for an hour after school today. I'm actually quite happy that it's the weekend because I have not been able to sleep much this week because I had two research papers to get done this week. I'm actually now able to breath. So, I'll be going to Christian music night at Cheap Skate on Sunday from 6-9PM. It's going to be so much fun! So, see ya!

Daily Log for 11/28/07

I went to bed really late last night because I was trying to get a research paper, that's due tomorrow, done. I really don't know how late it was but it was late. So I'm really tired today. I'm planning to go to the YMCA tomorrow because I have so much work to get done tonight. I hope to get most of it done today but I will still have a lot to do. So, I'll see ya!

Daily Log for 11/26/07

So, I don't think I'll be going to the YMCA today at all because I have a lot of homework to get done. But I will go tomorrow. To answer your question about what I do when I get into my emotional eater mood I tend to pray and lay all my burdens at the Foot of the Cross. Or else I got and exercise or get myself busy with some work, like homework, or I just take a 10 minute break and breath and relax myself - which sometimes turns into waterworks. But then I get back to whatever I'm doing unless I'm so tired after that then I take a nap.

Anyways, I was very proud of myself for not snacking this weekend. I was very busy with homework and so I didn't think about snacking. I even missed lunch on Saturday. We had my family come to my house for Thanksgiving and the host is usually left with most of the cooking, cleaning, and food. So we have loads and loads of turkey left over (my mom bought at 22lb turkey!), and stuffing, and vegetables, and pie. But I only ate those at meal times. So, my weekend was eventful and I had a wonderful break. See ya!

Fitness Log for 11/19 - 11/25

Wow, what a week! Thanksgiving was sooo awesome. I had so much fun with my cousins. I got Wednesday through Sunday for Thanksgiving break and it was such a blast relaxing. On Tuesday after school I went to the YMCA for an hour. Then I skipped Wednesday and Thursday because I had to clean my house so family could come over on Thursday. Friday I went to the YMCA for an hour and then sat around all day working on my College Algebra mid-term. I also went to the YMCA for an hour on Saturday and Sunday. Sunday I had a birthday party to go to. It was fun. So, that was my weekend in a nut-shell. Also, I had a lot of homework to do and my computer decided to die on me and I needed it to finish two research papers due this week. So my brother came over and spent about $2,000 of his own money to get my computer fixed and said it was an early Christmas present. Wow, what a brother! So now I have a almost a whole new computer - the shell is the same but the computer guts are basically new. So, see ya!

What are you doing now to give yourself a positive body image?
Right now I am working on my character. I enjoy helping others out and it makes me feel better about myself. Like when I'm sitting in ISC and someone needs math help I used to think I was terrible at math and I struggled with it a lot. But now that I'm able to help others I'm actually realizing that I'm better at math than I think. I also like to help others out by being a good friend. I'm fitting time in to "Be nice to myself." I exercise, which always makes me feel better about myself. I've also surrounded myself with good friends who are positive a lot of the time. I've also cut back on my TV time, I've actually only been watching two hours of TV a week, so I'm not polluting myself with those negative messages about body image like I used to.

What are some other ways you can have a positive body image?
Some other ways that I can have a positive body image is by eating healthy. I tend to eat sweets and fats when I'm stressed, tired, bored, or just overly emotional. I can also shift my thoughts to more positive thoughts. Even though I'm feeling better about myself I've still had negative thoughts but I'm going to work on that. I can develop a list of everything I like about myself, and appreciate more what my body can do. I can also wear more comfortable clothes that make me feel good about myself, not just clothes that are in but clothes that actually look good on me.

One of my friends went on a liquid diet she bought at the grocery store. She only got about 500 calories a day from the drinks. She lost weight, but she gained it all back when she quit drinking the diet stuff. Now she is thinking about going back on the liquid diet. She asked me for advice. What should I tell her?
Concerned and Confused

Dear Concerned and Confused,

It's good of you to be concerned about your friend. When she was on the diet she was consuming a very low amount of calories per day which is actually not healthy for the body. By just taking the liquid diet your friend is missing out on key nutrients that can benefit her body, like calcium. By also restricting how much nutrients she gets she is reducing her ability to concentrate and affecting in a negative way how her brain functions. Tell your friend that bodies come in all shapes and sizes and that by restricting her calorie intake she is actually doing more harm that good to her body. What your friend really wants by asking you is to know that you appreciate her. Tell her she's beautiful for who she is on the inside and not how she appears to be on the outside. Also, maybe help her eat a healthy diet by taking the same healthy diet as her and go running together every day, or do something active together. By getting exercise she will start feeling better about herself.

My brother is always listening to other people's ideas about the easiest ways to lose weight. What should I say to him to help him choose a healthy weight management plan?

Dear Curious Sister,
It's good that you want to help your brother make the best choice. One of the best ways to lose or maintain weight is to get regular physical activity and to heat a varied healthy diet. A lot of those diets out there reduce the amount of nutrients the body takes in and it can be potentially harmful. Tell your brother to eat more fruits and vegetables and to cut back on sweets and fats. Also, if you do the healthy diet with him he will be more compelled to keep the healthy diet up and will find himself at a healthy weight. Also, tell your brother that it's more dangerous to be 30% underweight than 30% overweight.

Dear Friend,
My best friend never eats breakfast. She thinks she can lose weight by skipping breakfast. She thinks it's just extra food her body doesn't need. What do you think?

Dear At a Loss,
Your friend sounds like something else is influencing her to not eat breakfast, like the media. The media is constantly telling their consumers that it's not good to eat breakfast, that it's just extra food. But actually breakfast is the most important meal of the day. Eating breakfast will get your metabolism going and will get you ready for the day. By not eating breakfast your friend will actually gain weight because your metabolism needs that boost in the morning. If you were to chose to eat one meal a day to lose weight you will actually lose more weight by eating breakfast than by just eating lunch or just eating dinner. Eating a good and a fare portion of food for breakfast will speed up your metabolic rate and you will be more awake and your brain will function better. Tell your friend that she needs to eat breakfast and that it's not just extra food. Maybe she also needs to not rush off too quickly in the mornings but sit and give her body time to wake up.

Daily Log for 11/20/07

I may be going to the YMCA after school today, but I'm not sure. I want to but I've got a lot to get done before Thanksgiving since we are having Thanksgiving at my house. But I think I can fit time in to go to the YMCA and I may even feel better. I went to bed really late last night, um...midnight, and so I'm really tired today. I'm really going to have to watch myself so I don't snack because when I get tired I tend to snack more - I'm an emotional eater. I'm going to break that habit! It's one of my goals. My emotions will not sway me to eat more. Anyways, I'm also really going to have to watch myself this weekend with eating a lot. I'm going to be very strict on myself. So, see ya!

I'm not planning to go to the YMCA after school today because I have 3 hours worth of homework to get done by tomorrow and I really need all the time I can get. I do plan on going after school on Tuesday, then again on Wednesday and every day for the rest of the week. So, I think I can skip going today. So, see ya!

Friday, after school, I went to the YMCA for 45 minutes because I had was going to go to Opal and I needed to have eaten dinner by six and my mom needed to cook the dinner. But, then on Sunday I went to the YMCA for an hour and fifteen minutes. I enjoyed it, and I think the exercise helped me get my homework done. So, see ya!

I at a lot of salty foods. I didn't really overcome them but I did say no to sitting in front of the TV and snacking.

I plan to go to the YMCA after school today. But I'm not 100% sure I will go because I'm so tired and I have a lot of homework to get done. Daily Log for 11/15/07

I wont be able to go to the YMCA today because I went to bed really late last night and then I've got babysitting and math help after school so I have no time to go today. But I will go tomorrow. I really don't know if I like going in the mornings or after school. Going in the mornings wakes me up and helps me get ready for the day but going after school helps me get enough energy to do my homework and I think it may even help me do better on my homework. I'll test it out to see if it really could help my homework. So, see ya!

I went to the YMCA after school for an hour. I really needed to go to just get all the energy out and even let off a little steam from the rough day I had yesterday. Daily Log for 11/13/07

I'm planning on going to the YMCA after school today, then head over to Wal-Mart or Target to buy myself a belt. All of my pants are too big for me and I have no belt because before I didn't need one. Now I need one and I don't want to buy a whole new wardrobe of pants because I want to lose as much weight as possible, to the point where I'm almost swimming in them, and then buy a two pairs of pants. So, I'm really happy with how far I've come and I can't wait to see what's ahead. I'm really glad that I've got Someone whose right by my side helping me through this because it's made all the difference and makes my load lighter. See ya!

Daily Log for 11/12/07

This morning I slept in because I was really tired from my babysitting on Saturday night and I did not get a chance to sleep in on Sunday because of church. I do plan to go after school though. I'm finding that it's very beneficial for homework and for not just sitting down in front of the TV for 30 minutes and snacking. If I don't have anything after school I tend to go home and watch TV for 30 minutes and watching TV tends to make me hungrier and so I tend to go for more salty and sugary foods, which I'm trying to not eat so much of. So, I guess that's all. See ya!

On Thursday I did not go to the YMCA because I was so tired. But Friday and Saturday I went, each for an hour. I did not go to the YMCA before school this morning because my mom, who normally drives me, was very tired, or else she just forgot. Anyways, I guess I'm going by myself after school, because my mom's knee is acting up for some reason, for an hour. I'm actually excited to go because I get to do the weights. I think they're so much fun but I was scared of them before. I also really like to do the elliptical and the treadmill, those two machines are so much fun. Last week I dreaded going but this week I'm so excited to go. I don't quite know why. So, I'll see ya!

Daily Log for 11/6/07

This morning I did not go to the YMCA because I just got back from staying overnight at Bethel and I was really tired. So, my mom decided that I shouldn't go to the YMCA this morning but we are planning to go after school. I was really proud of myself for not eating a lot of candy after Halloween, but of course I didn't get that much candy. Then I contained my desire and I did not go for the fatty foods at Bethel, but I did fall once because I ate an ice cream cone. But I was really proud of myself for not eating the foods I know I shouldn't have. So, I guess that's all, see ya!

On Thursday, Friday and Saturday I went to the YMCA for an hour. I started my Fit Start #2, with the weights, and my muscles hurt. But, I did enjoy doing the weights. On Sunday I went to Bethel University for their College Visit Weekend where perspective students come and get to stay overnight in the dorms and go to classes the next day. It was so much fun and I walked so much. Almost the whole time at Bethel I was walking. I'm really excited about going to Bethel if it's the place where God wants me to go. Anyways, that was my weekend. See ya!
